Ratville or Hazelton, MICHIGAN

Hazelton was located in Hazelton Twp. on the Misteaugay Creek. The first postmaster was John D. Newell who opened the Post Office on July 7, 1857. This office closed on Jan. 6, 1873, but reopened on Feb. 25, 1873 and closed again on April 30, 1902.

The township was named after Porter Hazelton, who, with his brothers had built a bridge over the Flint River for the State and in return were given many acres of land in the sparsely settled Hazelton township. This hamlet was also known as Ratville, so named for Erastus Call who was an early resident here.
