Location is 430'28"N 8417'5"W in Owosso Twp. It was a station on the Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad. West of Owosso on M-21, about 6 miles is Burton Corners, at the corner of M-21 and Burton Rd., then go north 1/2 mile to tracks.
Philander Munger became the first postmaster in 1864. The name was changed to Burton on May 4, 1878 and the Post Office closed on Jan. 31, 1936. At one time Burton had a depot, Odd Fellows Hall, general store, pickle station, church and school. All that remains today is the Burton United Methodist Church and several homes.
