This compilation covers nearly 200 years of Surveying in the Public Land Survey System in Michigan from the Old Northwest Territory to the present.

Researched and written by Mr. Caldwell over a twelve year period, the hardcover book contains 426 pages of biographical sketches of 205 U.S. Deputy Surveyors and over 2000 entries of relatives and crew members. The book also includes Michigan Maps and its first printing included 583 copies.
