Bancroft, Michigan History

Bancroft is located on Grand River Ave. in southeastern Shiawassee County in Shiawassee Township. This is a small, primarily residential town that functions as an adjunct community to the greater Flint, Lansing and Owosso areas.

It was founded in 1877 when the Chicago & Lake Huron Railroad built a station there as the line came through the area. H. M. Billings was the station agent at the time and is considered the town father. It was incorporated as a village in 1883.
